Abstract: The existing literature on travel websites has predominately concentrated on the functionality and the issue of availability is simply neglected. This paper made an exploratory study of the availability of China-based travel websites by adopting a set of modified heuristic criteria of evaluation, and defined the evaluation benchmark of website users. Based on the result of about 489 questionnaires completed by experienced travel website users with 24 criteria grouped into 5 dimensions, the paper discussed the existing problems concerning the content, services and overall structural design, and suggested some solutions.
