dcterms.abstractThis chapter discusses problem-based learning (PBL) and its potential application to conference interpreting training. PBL methods are thought to promote active learning of students, enhance students’ performance on complex tasks, and increase knowledge consolidation. Moreover, PBL approach in conference interpreting training is conducive to encouraging interpreting trainees to solve authentic problems during interpreting training. As such, the students can reflect on their interpreting process, which again can be situated in different interpreting contexts. In addition, this chapter proposes seven teaching steps for PBL model in interpreting classrooms and addresses the design and implementation of problems, the role of teachers, and the assessments of students’ learning outcomes in problem-based interpreting training. This chapter also provides a case study to demonstrate how PBL can be applied in interpreting classrooms. The article concludes with a discussion of educational benefits brought by applying PBL model in conference interpreter training.-
