Title: Application of GIS in building environmental impact assessment in Hong Kong

Abstract: With the deterioration of environment, the environment of human life has been facing a serious threat. Environmental protection and environmental impact assessment have become important research directions. Effective tools for evaluating environmental impact of construction activities also have increasing concerns by researchers. This paper reviewed some assessment methods of environment impact and the development of GIS applications in this field in world and in Hong Kong. The paper proposed a model of GIS based environmental impact assessment platform and did some simulations to proof its advantages and effectiveness. Finally, some problems had been proposed for further works.
