Title: | A study on correlation between Chinese sentence and constituting clauses based on the menzerath-altmann law | Authors: | Hou, R Huang, CR Do, HS Liu, H |
Issue Date: | 2017 | Source: | Journal of quantitative linguistics, 2017, v. 24, no. 4, p. 350-366 | Abstract: | The Menzerath-Altmann law (henceforth the MA law), discovered by Menzerath and formulated by Altmann, describes the correlation between the language structure and its immediate components at all linguistic levels. This paper examines the correlation between Chinese sentences and their components, clauses, in texts from different registers based on the MA law. The results show that the correlation is described by the MA law only in the formal written texts. | Publisher: | Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group | Journal: | Journal of quantitative linguistics | ISSN: | 0929-6174 | EISSN: | 1744-5035 | DOI: | 10.1080/09296174.2017.1314411 | Rights: | © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Journal of Quantitative Linguistics on 26 Apr 2017 (Published online), available online: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/09296174.2017.1314411 |
