Objective This study describes the lived experience of eight registered nurses who cared for SARS patients in three regional hospitals in Hong Kong.Method A complex mesh of feelings and interrelated experiences were expressed. Results In the process of caring for SARS patients, nurses recognized that they were creating the conditions whereby caring beliefs could be realized and revitalized. Conclusions There is a need for extensive and on-going support to prepare and enable nurses to care for SARS patients with greater understanding, and to be understood as they simultaneously experience their own journey of uncertainty.-
