dcterms.abstract | As libraries move their focus on print collection to digital resources residing in the “cloud”, the library‐user relationship also changed dramatically. Access to information, one of the key functions of libraries, is now literally in the hands and pockets of users by way of mobile devices, which can link instantly to the “cloud”. Power has clearly shifted from the library to the user and the dependence relationship inverted. The library‐user relationship is a fundamental one and defines what libraries are, and therefore their future. Will users continue to value and use libraries now that the “cloud” seemingly provides most of what they think they need? This article discusses the changing relationship between libraries and their users and in particular the critical factors, such as convenience, attention and perception of value that are likely to influence future use of libraries. | - |
