The critical public health risk caused by Salmonella necessitates the need for efficient detection methods. Conventional techniques based on plate counting and real-time polymerase chain reaction are time-consuming, costly, and labor-intensive, thus mainly performed in centralized laboratories. To meet the emerging need for decentralized/on-site testing, here we describe a rapid, low-cost, and simple method for Salmonella detection in coffee and cream by using gold nanoparticle-based loop-mediated isothermal amplification.-
