This paper develops a frequency-domain transient-based method to evaluate and identify viscoelastic parameters for plastic pipes that are commonly used in water supply systems. The influence of viscoelastic parameters on frequency response of transient pressure in a viscoelastic pipe is firstly derived by the transfer matrix method, and then the derived frequency shift relationship and its simplified form are applied to inverse analysis of viscoelastic characteristics. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method are validated through various numerical tests. The application results demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the developed method for evaluating the viscoelastic parameters of plastic pipes.en_US
