dcterms.abstract | Based on the qualitative data collected from a case interview with the chief program implementer as well as focus group interviews with 57 Secondary 3 students in Hong Kong, factors contributing to the success of a life and career planning program adopting a positive youth development approach in a secondary school were examined. Six themes conducive to program success were extracted from the narratives: a) clear objectives with strong emphasis on adolescent psychosocial development, b) diverse and creative program design, c) experiential approach that allowed participants to experience, reflect and learn, d) quality implementers, e) continuous feedback from the participants, and f) good timing in launching the program. The factors suggest that the positive youth development approach provides a holistic framework of the design and content of the life and career development. Theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed. | en_US |
