Abstract: Using a sample of 231 students recruited from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), this paper reports the findings of a validation study for the 97-item long-form of the Service Leadership Behavior Scale (SLB-LF-97), which was specifically designed to measure the behavioral characteristics of a quality Service Leader. Results showed that the SLB-LF-97 had high internal consistency and convergent validity. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that 12 factors were extracted from the data, with 65 items retained to form the short-form of the inventory (SLB-SF-65). Both the long-form (SLB-LF-97) and the short-form (SLB-SF-65) of the scale showed excellent internal consistency, with the latter demonstrating robust convergent validity as shown by its significant positive correlation with several theoretically linked constructs.
