With the primary sources of inscriptions, epitaphs and documents, this paper aims to elaborate how the practices, namely central-district-bound migration, family bureaucratization as well as forming marital ties with the royal family, mattered in the development strategies employed by the ministers who were buried at Zhaoling, an imperial tomb of Emperor Taizong, together with their family members. Expounding the above historical issues might enable us to understand how prominent clans in the Tang Dynasty found their way to achieve prestige and prosperity in response to limitations of social situation. Central-district-bound migration did not happen only to prominent clans; instead humble families were eager to catch up with the trend following the abolition of the Nine-rank system in the Sui Dynasty. As a whole, the choice of burial sites made by clans and families during the Tang Dynasty not only embodied the popularity of central-district-bound migration pattern, but also strengthened the trend of overlooking the importance to maintain a close affinity with their native places, which was originated in the Sui Dynasty.
