Centralized air-conditioning(A/C) systems take a large proportion of total energy consumption in commercial buildings.Monitoring is very important for the proper operation of A/C systems. When a system does not operate as intended, this system should be diagnosed to locate where the fault is and what measures should be taken to fix this problem.Even if the system operates normally, the system also should be assessed continuously to verify if this system is energy-efficient or not. Therefore, fault detection and diagnosis, and also assessment are significantly essential to ensure proper operation, improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality. The development of fault detection and diagnosis of HVAC systems was reviewed in this paper.Additionally,it is pointed out that the research should be mainly focused on the practical applications of the existing methods and strategies of fault detection and diagnosis in building A/C systems.
