Electrochemical atomic hydrogen-induced modifications of electrical properties of insulating NiZnCu ferrite ceramics and the effects of electrochemical cathodic current density(30~120 A·m-2) and temperature(20~60 ℃) of atomic hydrogen treatment were investigated. It was shown that the resistivity of NiZnCu ferrite ceramics decreased rapidly at the initial stage of the atomic hydrogen charging and the ferrite ceramics became semiconductive. Then with increasing hydrogen charging time, the resistivity decreased less rapidly and tended to remain stable. The permittivity increased with increasing hydrogen charging time and then started to decrease after reaching a maximum value. There was no simple monotonous effects of the current density and temperature on the rate and degree of the semiconduction of the ferrite.Under hydrogen charging with a current density of 120 A·m-2 at 40 ℃,the resistivity decreased the most rapidly from 8.29×108 Ω·m to 1.32 Ω·m by nearly nine orders of magnitude in two minutes.Furthermore, the resistivity was the smallest after it tended to remain stable. The influences of the current density and temperature on the semiconductive velocity were interpreted from the process of the hydrogen-induced NiZnCu ferrite semiconduction, namely the adsorption-invasion-diffusion theory.Modifications of the resistivity and dielectric properties of insulating NiZnCu ferrite ceramics were analyzed from the viewpoints of the doping effects and chemical reactions induced by the electrochemical atomic hydrogen.
