Homographic expressions come from various sources. Those found in Hong Kong written Chinese and Standard written Chinese form a special group not only because they are of a larger number but also because they have some unusual derivational pathways. Two types of homographs are discussed in this paper:those which happened to be written with the same characters and those which are the result of semantic extension.
