Some questions regarding the ’duality approach’ to Chinese passives are raised in this paper.Under the ’complementation approach’,the theory of ’ergativization’ is further refined. In so called ’ergativization’,the light verb BECOME,which is unable to assign accusative case,is selected and introduced to the derivation.Movement of the patient argument in short passives is triggered by the EPP feature of the light verb, while movement in long passives is for ’predicativization’.
