Colors and illumination play important roles in design as people experience their surroundings through perception, cognition and construct meaning through color.Dynamic photonic textiles which are responsive and tactile can seamlessly integrate technology into everyday environs to utilize color and light to enhance user experience. This collection of work comprises of textile art, fashion design and interior furnishings. Although it comprises of a diverse range of products, they share the common purpose of serving as a communicative platform for users. The adaptability of photonic textiles enables the experience of using everyday products to be richer and improve connections between users and their surroundings. The research showcased in this exhibition had utilized the interdisciplinary methods of design and technology. The products have been created by integrating traditional weaving techniques like jacquard and plain weaves with electronic sensors and innovative technology like laser engraving. Neophotonics showcases exploratory research pertaining to interactivity and woven textiles. The research pushes the boundaries between design and technology and actively explores the creative potential of interdisciplinary research.
