Beyond the Great Wall : experiences with ETDs and open access in China and South East Asia

Abstract

This paper explores the incidence and impact of ETDs and Open Access in China and the broader region. The markets are very different from Europe and the Americas. A survey has been completed for this paper and the results are presented. The presentation reveals a picture of uneven development across the region. It shows great interest in these matters but uneven strategic commitment to this development at this particular time. The pressures on libraries in this region are different and the degree of collaboration is still emerging. A summation of the situation also presents a brief overview of publishing.
