Abstract: In this paper, a non-iterative post-processing method is proposed to restore the images encoded with block-based compression standards such as JPEG. This method classifies small local boundary regions according to their intensity distribution and then select appropriate linear predictors to estimate the corresponding boundary pixels in the regions. This approach is easy to be implemented and we found in our simulations that its restoration performance was very respectable compared with the reported post-processing methods.
