Abstract: The invention discloses a free-form surface type binary optical element, a designing method and a manufacturing method thereof and a free-form surface type binary optical projection system. The designing method comprises the steps of forming an original file, wherein the original file comprises an original pattern; performing grid division on the original file to form an original file array plane; displaying a display pattern in a display area, performing grid division, which is the same as that of the original file, on the display area to form a display area array plane; performing grid division, which is the same as that of the original file, on a virtual plane to form a virtual array plane; adjusting the angle of a plane corresponding to a first color in the virtual array plane to enable the display pattern in the display area to correspond to the original pattern in the original file; and forming a free-form surface by using each angle-adjusted plane in the virtual array plane.
