Abstract: In simulating the fire-induced convection flow by the κ-ε model using the SIMPLE algorithm, a system of equations describing conservation of momentum, mass, enthalpy, and smoke concentration is solved. The results are particularly useful in assessing the fire response of bigger enclosures like atria or industrial plants. Fire regulations can then be designed based on the predicted results. The system of partial differential equations given in the paper is normally solved by finite-difference methods. They are discretized using the control volume method.
