Title: | Optical properties of sol-gel derived SrxBa1-xNb2O6 (SBN) for optoelectronic application | Authors: | Ho, Man-tak Melanie | Degree: | M.Phil. | Issue Date: | 1999 | Abstract: | Srx Ba1-x Nb2O6(SBN), one of the ferroelectric materials, is currently being investigated as the potential materials for the pyroelectric infrared detector, electro-optics, photorefractive and piezoelectrics devices. In our studies, both SBN powders and films have been successfully fabricated by sol-gel method. In the process of preparation of fine powders, there are several parameters, namely the annealing temperature and Sr/Ba ratio have been investigated in order to obtain the optimum conditions. Based on these results, the optimum processing parameters were identified so as to control the structural and optical properties of the SBN powders. The structural behaviour was examined by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy was employed to check the chemical composition of the samples. The dielectric properties were measured by an impedance gain analyzer. Finally, the nonlinear optical properties were examined by second harmonic generation. In conclusion, we have found out the relationship of the Sr:Ba ratio and the structural, electrical and optical properties of SBN powder. | Subjects: | Optoelectronic devices -- Materials Ferroelectric crystals Hong Kong Polytechnic University -- Dissertations |
