Abstract: The domains and their strain patterns in a single crystal sample of (0.7)PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-(0.3)PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) were studied with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The observations revealed needle-shaped domain patterns in thin particles, which were crushed to form wedge-shaped samples for TEM. The domains are accompanied by strain field, analogous to an edge dislocation, which is created by wall bending. Various dislocations were observed within the domains, which play a role as interfacial dislocations for deformation twins. Tweed-like contrast, also strain-related, was widely observed in many {110} oriented particles.
