Abstract: The corrosion behavior of LSA of high nickel ductile iron with pure copper was investigated. The sample was analyzed using XPS and SEM with an EDX spectrometer. The corrosion resistance of the ductile iron was improved after laser surface alloying with pure copper. XPS results showed that a compact copper oxide passive film on the alloyed surface in the chloride solution was formed. The passive film was responsible for the enhancement of corrosion resistance due to its low electric conductivity.
