Abstract: Prestressing force has been used widely with long span structure, and it is the most important factor to describe the load-carrying capacity of the structure. Free and forced vibrations of the beam are studied. The prestressed bridge is modeled as a simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beam and it is discretized using finite element method. The effects of the prestress force on the modal frequencies and dynamic responses are discussed. It is found that the effects of prestress force on the lower natural frequencies and the dynamic displacement response of the beam are large.
