Abstract: A novel apparatus to investigate evaporation, ice condensation and moisture transmission through fabric under a subzero climate was developed. The resultant device consists of a water bath, a diffusion column, a small climate chamber, two semiconductor refrigerators and a small fan. Device performance was validated via experiments using two breathable fabrics under -20°C. The experimental results confirm the potential of the technique for calculating water vapor resistance at sub-zero climate.
