Abstract: For renewable energy systems, grid-connected inverters are widely adopted to convert energy to the power grids. However, considering the fluctuation of the renewable energy sources and the external signal disturbance on the control signal, the grid-connected inverters suffer from the bad performance of the waveform and possibility of instability when the inverters are controlled by the conventional Proportional-Integral control and sliding mode control. This article presents a backstepping sliding mode (BSM) control, which can successfully eliminate the effect being caused by the fluctuation of renewable energy sources and the control signal disturbance from external signals. The stability can also be guaranteed when the grid-connected inverters are controlled by BSM controllers.
