Abstract: China‚Äôs post-1978 reforms, such as the opening up policy, have had far-reaching economic and social impacts. Over the past several decades, China has been introducing more and more flexibility into its governance. The establishment of special administrative and economic regions such as Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai is a good example of this effective and flexible governance.
