dcterms.abstract | GPS is proved to be a useful tool for monitoring deformations of dams, bridges and slopes. In the standard method for using GPS in deformation monitoring, one GPS receiver must be equipped for every point to be monitored. Wide application of GPS for civil use is restricted by the high cost of receivers. GPS multi-antenna data acquisition and control system (GMS) can make one receiver connect with several antennas. That is, with this system, one GPS receiver can be used to monitor several points. All tests show that GMS has almost no influence on the signal and measuring accuracy of GPS. By using this technology, the cost of GPS used for local monitoring deformations of many man-made or natural structures, such as dams, slopes and volcanoes, is significantly reduced. | - |
