Abstract: Hong Kong's population and gross domestic product have increased by 80% and close to 10-fold in the past four decade. Concurrently, the consumption of electricity in Hong Kong have increased by about 9-fold. In this paper, we employed a 4-parameter logic model to characterize the long-term trend of electricity consumption and its key sectoral components including commercial electricity consumption and household electricity consumption. In addition, seasonal analysis was applied to identify the key features of sectoral electricity consumption. The environmental impact of electricity consumption was determined based on fuel life cycle analysis. Some suggestions that minimize the environmental impact caused by the consumption of electricity in Hong Kong were given.
