Energy technology is perceived as the most powerful means to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. However, some technologies will not achieve the expected goals due to uncertainties. It is necessary to identify the most effective ones. After that, another issue is how to promote and apply them successfully. This paper uses Kaya equation to identify the core technologies for achieving China's energy goals: energy security and emission reduction. Then, the external and internal environments for the promotion of China's core energy technologies are analyzed using technology diffusion model. Lastly, conclusions and certain policy suggestions are put forward.(C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.-
