Abstract: A novel optical fiber with soft cladding is presented for surrounding pressure sensing application. The cladding is made of a kind of transparent silicone which can be compressed by and leads to extra loss. In the experiment the loss increment of a 0.5 meter long soft cladding fiber after applying high pressure up to 30 MPa is observed.
