Abstract: This article reports on the results of a Singapore study of thirty older persons living alone or with their spouse in the community. The overall purpose was to find out how older persons get into a condition of not receiving family support and to explore community and government response to their condition. The results showed that there were overlays of intergenerational struggle with little education, low incomes, marital dissolution, and lack of family stability.
