Abstract: In outdoor activities of hot summer and/or in the working conditions of high temperatures, thermal stress is a serious problem. A garment would be highly desirable if it can detect and adjust temperature changes, and take the sweat away from skin, and to provide additional cooling power with secretion of extensive sweat. This paper reports the development of a smart garment to achieve these functions by means of integration of smart materials such as PCM microcapsules and functional fabrics such as moisture management fabrics for summer wear, uniforms, sportswear and medical treatment garment. Extensive experiments have been carried out to test the functional performance of the garments and results are analyzed and shown that significant cooling effect can be achieved.
