Abstract: This paper investigates the multivariable identification and controller validation for the longitudinal channel of a Boeing 747 transport. The transfer function matrix of the system are identified using the prediction error (PE) identification method with multivariable ARX model. An ellipsoidal parametric uncertainty set is constructed from the covariance matrix of the identified parameters. It contains the parameters of actual system at a certain probability level. The identified models and the associated uncertainty sets are validated by measuring the worst case v -gap. A PID controller is chosen for the pitch angle control and a H∞ controller is designed for the speed control. Their stability are validated by measuring the stability radius. The performance is further validated by computing the worst case performance criterion function which is obtained by solving a standard convex optimization problem involving linear matrix inequalities (LMI) constraints.
