Abstract: This paper investigates the relationship between the objective measurement of garment pressure and the wearer's subjective comfort sensation. The effects of body's fat content and curvature on the pressure generated were also examined. Four human subjects aged between 22 and 47 with a size range from M to XL were invited to test wearing on five girdle styles of their respective size. A questionnaire was used to investigate the wearer's sensation of comfort, shaping and pressure. It was found that the subjective feelings had a linear relationship with the objective pressure measurements mainly at the waist, tummy and hip. A function of comfort was formulated in terms of garment pressure, body curvature and fat content. Moreover, a multiple regression equation was established between pressure, body fat content and curvature.
