Abstract: In this paper, the complex physical mechanisms of condensation, sorption, diffusion and capillary liquid transfer, as well as heat transfer are studied by numerical simulations on the basis of mathematical description of the physical models. Computational simulations are carried out on two cases, where direct contact or non-contact with liquid water on the inner fabric surface is considered. The simulation results illustrate the complex coupling effects among different modes of moisture transfer and their interactions with the heat transfer processes, as shown in the dynamic distributions of water vapor concentration, relative humidity, temperature, fiber moisture content, liquid volume, fiber moisture sorption and condensation rates. Good agreement with experimental measurement shows the application potential of the model for functional design of textiles and apparel products.
