Abstract: This paper describes the results of shearing tests conducting on a rock-like modeling material which contains one row of non-presistent colinear joints. With the observed experimental results, the paper puts forward a failure mechanism model of rock bridges and provides an analytical expression for the model. The comparison between the experimental results and analytical results shows a good agreement.
