Abstract: Numerical works and experimental studies on upstream airflow around a cube reported in the literature will be reviewed. The ‘bubble length’ on the top of a rib or a cube is shown to vary with upstream flow velocity pattern. There should be correlation between turbulent energy k profile and reattachment on the top of a rib or a cube. For numerical studies with the k-ϵ type of two-equation turbulence models, the predicted reattachment lengths on the floor behind the cube are much longer than values measured in experiment. However, in studying the reattachment lengths on the roof of a cube, the predicted distribution of k and bubble lengths agreed better with the experiment if a suitable velocity near the sharp corner of two vertically intersected walls under windward situation is given. The k-ϵ type of turbulence models is applicable for predicting the reattachment lengths on the roof of a cube.
