Abstract: Local accident rates, particularly in the construction industry, remain high over the years. In this paper, the accident statistics, codes and regulations for construction used in some South-East Asian countries, includingjapan, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and the Philippines, are briefly reviewed. Major causes of accidents are investigated and compared with the local construction industry. Based on the results, recommendations are made to the local government to help upgrading safety and health in the industry.
