Abstract: Hysteresis influences on the detent torque in permanent magnet motor are described physically. Although there are many methods to simulate hysteresis effects, most studies are focusing on loss calculation and very few papers discuss and simulate detent torque. Based on an improved interpolation method, the four-quadrant hysteresis effects are considered in cogging torque finite element simulation. Both theoretical and experimental studies demonstrate that the detent torque can be reduced if high grade, large particle size materials with low impurity are used.
