Abstract: Biased relay feedback tests have been applied to self-regulating processes and first-order process with dead time models are fitted to the system output responses. With the estimated apparent time delay, apparent time constant, apparent static gain and an appropriate sampling time, the fitted model is converted to a sampled data system and a deadbeat controller can be derived based on the sampled data system. A detuned deadbeat controller can also be obtained by scaling down the action of the deadbeat controller. Time delay of the fitted model can be determined on-line based on the error between the fitted model output and the process output. Fuzzy logic enhancement is also implemented on-line to monitor any system changes or incorrectness in the initial process modelling. Simulations are included to demonstrate the proposed algorithm.
