Abstract: Laundering tests were conducted on radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, and the failure mechanism of the RFID tags under the washing process was examined and analyzed. The main failure mechanism was found to be the force concentration at the connection between the antenna and the chip. Based on the results, thin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films were adopted to attach on the RFID tags to reduce the force concentration and protect the chip from water. It was found that the RFID tags can effectively protect the RFID to avoid damage during the laundering test.
