Abstract: Weaving section is a typical bottleneck on urban expressway. Due to the merging and diverging behaviors, conflicts exist around the weaving section and capacity breakdown happens. In this paper, two control measures are considered to eliminate the conflicts among vehicles in the weaving section. The first control measure regulates that the exit vehicles should change to the auxiliary lane before they reach the center point of the weaving section. The second control measure rules that the drive-in vehicles should change to the main road before they reach the center point of the weaving section. Simulation results show that the first control measure is effective when the proportion of exit vehicle is low, while the second control measure is effective when the proportion of exit vehicle is high. Thus which one should be used is determined by the traffic demand.
