Abstract: This paper is the first part of a series investigating yarn twist propagation in rotor spinning and methods to produce modified rotor spun yarns. Here, an integrated mechanical approach is presented for dynamic twist distribution in the yarn-forming process from fibers collected in the rotor groove to the twisted yarn at the twist stopper. Equations of equilibrium in different yarn-forming regions are established in terms of dimensionless variables. Yarn tension and twist distribution under steady spinning conditions are then numerically simulated, where the influences of various dimensionless parameters of rotor spinning on yarn tension and twist distribution are discussed in detail.
