Abstract: This paper presents the application of a relational database, named dynamic security assessment (DSA) database system, in a windows-based software package designed for DSA and dynamic preventive security control of large interconnected power systems. The structure, organization and functions of the software package are introduced. The algorithm applying the database system in the on-line DSA for preventive security control is presented. Case studies of the control algorithm on the 10-generator New England test system are reported to show the effect and the feasibility to reschedule the generation in order to guarantee optimal security operation of power systems.
