Abstract: This paper presents the validation results of a calibrated Pedestrian Simulation (PS) model for signalized crosswalk in Hong Kong congested urban area. The PS model was developed to simulate pedestrian walking behaviors on the selected signalized crosswalk. The average walking time/speed together with its variations could be estimated by the developed PS model particularly under various bi-directional pedestrian flow conditions. An independent video recording survey was carried out at the selected signalized crosswalk so as to examine the reliability of the simulation results. Thus, a new set of observed data was then extracted to validate the simulation results given by the PS model. Observed walking times and flows were compared with the simulation results. It was found that the comparison results were satisfactory. It shows that the calibrated PS model could be used for assessing the impacts of various improvement schemes of signalized crosswalk particularly under conditions with heavy pedestrian flows.
