Abstract: This paper presents the energy characteristics of hotel operation. The energy sources, apportionment of energy use and energy indices are reported based on findings of an extensive energy scrutiny and on-site measurement in the studied hotel. Hourly power intensity of guestrooms and daily load profiles of electricity and fuel use are presented. Energy performance lines showing the dependence of fuel consumption on outdoor air temperature, hotel occupancy rates and number of food covers are established and discussed. These energy indices and performance lines will provide a basis for hotel environmental management and for engineers in setting energy saving measures and designing services systems in hotels.
