Abstract: A tunable fiber grating laser (FGL) based on fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) with a thin platinum film was demonstrated. Electrical current was passed through the coating to achieve the tuning of the laser wavelength. An optical circulator was used in conjunction with the FBG. The feasibility of a compact and power efficient tunable source suitable for use in multi-channel dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) was demonstrated by the tuning technique.
