Abstract: The effects of two carbon sources, maltose and cyclo-dextrine, on the growth and the metabolism of Cellulomonas sp. were discussed. The experiment showed: cyclo-dextrine could higher enhance the growth of Cellulomonas sp. than maltose, the former as carbon source resulted in the final biomass concentration 20% higher than that of the latter. It was found that Cellulomonas sp. could synthesize trehalose by trehalose-6-phosphate synthase and trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase; maltose was propitious to induce these two enzymes, and the intracellular trehalose could reach 13 mg/g dry cells.
