Abstract: Nanosized lead titanate (PT) powder was incorporated into a vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene P(VDF-TrFE) 70/30 mol%] matrix to form a 0-3 nanocomposite with 0.2 volume fraction of PT. As P(VDF-TrFE) and PT has d33 piezoelectric coefficient of opposite signs, it is necessary to pole the two phases in antiparallel directions to obtain a composite with good piezoelectric properties. Thin film of 5 ?m thickness was prepared by spin-coating the composite on a glass substrate. After being poled, the film was peeled off from the substrate and used to fabricate an ultrasonic transducer. The transducer was 1.2 mm in diameter and has a centre frequency of 40 MHz and its performance was evaluated.
